The Nicolet iS50 FTIR/and Continuum FTIR microscope uses an interferometer to rapidly generate infrared and NIR spectra that can be used to identify and characterize organic and some inorganic materials. Microscope can do single point or full mapping.Latest Status Log EntryApr 24, 2024 - Resource Status Down - Moving mirror is sticking hard, instrument is not scanning. I will be working with Thermo Nicolet for repair. Gary

This versatile combination of instruments can handle liquids, solids, and gasses. As currently configured it will cover mid-IR (400-4000 cm-1) as well as most of the NIR (11,700-2,000 cm-1. It is dual source (Globar and white light) and dual beam splitter (KBr and CaF2). On the main bench there are DTGS, MCTA, and InGaAs detectors. Stages include transmission, multiple types of attenuated total reflectance (ATR), variable angle reflection, and diffuse reflection. The 10x10 micron minimum spot size of the Continuum Microscope enables detailed analysis of composite materials mixed on this scale. This FTIR can be used to identify surface and bulk composition of many materials, including gases, liquids, solids, fibers, and thin films.
